Let's show our friendship and support for our neighbors to the north and celebrate their independence with them by declaring Vermont (just for one day) to be a province of Canada. Let's welcome everyone arriving in Vermont that day with signs and flags welcoming them to Canada!
We're into the home stretch, Canadophiles, ready to show our support for Canadian sovereignty and for respectful friendship between our two countries. The schedule for welcoming travelers to Canada-for-just-one-day is unchanged -- 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Exit 2 overpass on I-91.
Don't forget to make a super classy sign to wave. (We'll have some sign making materials available at the scene, too.) The big banner is almost done and will be totally visible (in both English and French) to the cars speeding beneath us.
BUT HERE'S THE BIG NEWS: At 6:00 we'll adjourn from the overpass and reconvene at Bar 580, located at Vermont Marketplace (the old Outlet Center) at Exit 1. The proprietors have put poutine on the menu and added two Canadian beers just for us to celebrate Canada Day. Let's do it in style!
All systems are go. We're looking forward to seeing YOU on Tuesday.
It's only a week away from today, so make sure you're getting your act together for Vermont Canada Day. We'll have two sessions on July 1, the first starting at 8:00 a.m. and the second starting at 4:00p.m. We'll meet at the 1-91 Exit 2 overpass with our flags and signs welcoming everyone to Canada, so be imaginative and make a cool sign celebrating Canada and its independence. It could be witty, it could be innovative, or it just could say "Yay for Canada!" It's the thought that counts.
After the afternoon session, sometime around 6:00. we'll head for a local pub in search of poutine and Canadian beer. Will we find it? It's an adventure, but I think the chances are good.
More to follow -- daily updates from here on out -- so check back for fellowship and motivation as the big day approaches. And as for you Canada skeptics, Elbows Up!
